Britt Murray passed away last Thursday. Many of you may not have known Britt Murray, but he had a significant impact on St. Louis youth soccer. You may not know it, but you play in a league Britt founded (SLYSA in 1975) and you play on fields Britt helped create for SLYSA (Soccer Park and what is now the Lou Fusz Soccer Complex on Aubuchon road). Britt served as a volunteer on the SLYSA board of directors for many years and was instrumental in the acquisition and development of both complexes.
I did not know Britt very well, but had the opportunity to meet with him several times. Even after he retired, I would often see him at the Soccer Park taking in a game or two. When I saw him, I would go spend a little time talking to him and you could tell he loved soccer and loved helping kids. I can’t say people will remember his name, but I can say he had a significant impact on youth soccer in St. Louis.
From the bottom of my heart, on behalf of SLYSA and our children and their children ….. thanks Britt.
Roger Uphoff SLYSA President
