Icelandic Soccer Camp in St. Louis in July
Huh! (Cue Icelandic thunder clap.) Already planning for soccer camps this summer? Mark your calendar for a one-of-a-kind soccer camp July 23rd through 27th. Iceland's U21 national team coach, Tomas Tomasson, will lead the Icelandic Soccer School at the SLYSA complex using training modules that have been extremely successful with player development in Iceland. Tomasson has coached many of the Icelandic national team players who will be playing in the World Cup finals in Russia this summer as well as USA national team forward Aron Johannsson. "The mixture of Icelandic and American training modules helped me develop as a player and knowing the coaches for the Icelandic Soccer School personally, I guarantee a week full of good soccer drills and fun this summer," says Johannsson, who plays professionally with Werder Bremen in Germany along with being on the USA men’s national team.
Tomasson holds a UEFA Elite A Youth coaching license as well as a UEFA A license. He has coached the Icelandic U21 national team since 2009 and has been a coach at the youth and premier league level in Iceland. Tomasson has worked with players such as Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton), Aron Gunnarsson (Cardiff), Alfred Finnbogason (Ausburg), and Aron Johannsson (Werder Bremen). Tomasson also played professionally for FC Berlin, AGF, and Raufoss.
“Tomasson is a great coach both on and off the pitch. He has a great personality and gets through to all players of all levels. We have been coaching together for ten year at the national team level and he has done well every step of the way. He is capable of getting the best out of a player who is ten years old and also a player who is 19. His great knowledge of the game works for every age group,” says Eyjolfur Sverrisson, former professional player and coach captain with Hertha Berlin and Stuttgart in Germany and former coach of the Icelandic men’s national team.
Assisting him will be Sigurdur Reynisson who holds a UEFA B license and currently coaches at the Icelandic club Fylkir.
